I went on a vicious defriending spree last night, and cut somewhere around 30 people. This isn't to say I don't like you anymore, but that I don't feel we have very much in common, we have drifted apart, or we were never really close. If you think that I defriended you by accident (which actually happened twice last night oops), please let me know.

I wish you all the best ♥

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

I passed my Speech and Drama exam.

Also I'm not at school today but I wouldn't have been able to because I'm sick. Ugh. I woke up at 5am and barely had time to get to the bathroom before I threw up.

But how am I throwing up, I haven't eaten since 7am yesterday! THIS MAKES NO SENSE.

Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

So there's the whole brouhaha with [livejournal.com profile] 1stclass_kink (if you don't know what I'm talking about and are in XMFC, take a look at the Adventures of Crazymod I, II and III) so people are migrating to [livejournal.com profile] xmen_firstkink, which I've actually been using since near enough the beginning of both, after the underage kerfuffle at[livejournal.com profile] 1stclass_kink. [livejournal.com profile] xmen_firstkink, unlike the Other Meme, allows underage and makes people use warnings. YAY.

See you there!

A friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] smallbutevil recently started college in Truro and was lodging near it. Now, however, their landlady is kicking them and their housemates out because she's expecting a baby (due next year) and has been ill recently and doesn't want to deal with other people living there. If she does kick them out, Ecu and their friend will have nowhere to live because the houses near there are all full, or are too expensive.

Ecu says that "we picked from a list of people who were willing to have students. So any ones which aren't taken I don't have any hope for whatsoever; if all the official ones are taken I don't know how we'll find housing."

If anyone knows anywhere for them or has any advice, please email them at hh128910@ghs.truropenwith.ac.uk

We are so financially strapped, I don't know how we'll even make our deposit and so on for a new apartment.

My Social Security income still has not been reactivated. [livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes mostly does odd jobs. As a result, we're living off food stamps, what little money we have, and borrowed funds, as well as your donations.

I'm on disability for a variety of reasons. I have multiple pain conditions, as well as psychiatric ones, including anxiety disorders and Bipolar I with psychotic features. Currently, my disability qualification is being recertified. This apparently began in May, but I never received paperwork about it, so my payments were suspended beginning in June. We started trying to get this fixed in July (again, the anxiety disorders), and I have done all paperwork sent to me to help. I'm calling again tomorrow, as I haven't heard anything in some time.

[livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes has been having a very hard time finding a job. Since we moved here at the end of October, she's held one job, and that was a temp position. She's registered with local temp agencies, and she's putting out applications. People just are not hiring.

We have to move this month. Specifically, we have to move out of the house by August 30. Our landlord is trying to sell the house, and she's decided that it would be easier if there were no tenants. Because of that, we need to come up with a deposit and first month's rent, at the very least, as soon as possible. This would be far less of an issue if my Social Security was not a problem. We don't expect to get our deposit back in a timely manner.

Last month, I had such severe pain that we called 911. We didn't even call 911 when I was in acute opiate withdrawal; instead, [livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes drove me to the ER. I have a $110 bill from that that needs to be put on a payment plan.

[livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes is undergoing oral surgery tomorrow to pull two abscessed teeth. To finance that, we had to beg money from both her parents, and various friends signal-boosted for us. This is not minor dental work; this is an infection so bad that it's spread from the roots of her teeth and into her cheek. She is currently on antibiotics and painkillers.

We really hate to ask, but we have to ask for donations to help with all this. Our PayPal address is kelly.pittman AT gmail.com. If you can, would you mind signal-boosting for us?

I just cut a lot of people from my friend's list. If you were cut, it was probably because we're too different and I don't feel a connection with you anymore, I don't feel comfortable with you reading this, or because we've drifted apart.

I'm not doing a comment to be added back thing, but I wish you good luck with whatever you're doing and hope you're all right ♥
